Zombie Lake (1981)

Written by Julian Esteban and Jesus Franco. Directed by Jean Rollin and Julian de Laserna. Starring Howard Vernon, Pierre-Marie Escourrou and Anouchka.

Plot: In a small village, somewhere in France, German soldiers, killed and thrown into the lake by the Resistance during WW II, come back.

1360415050_7The opening is nothing if not memorable… It is five solid minutes of one girl swimming naked with music playing, its artsy meets soft core porn. There is a volleyball scene as well that looks like a pornographic double mint commercial. There is also a sex scene later but it is completely hilarious, not erotic.

The special effects are terrible, their skin is green but it rubs and falls off, but the hair is still nice and blonde. I don’t know who’s idea it was to get them wet with the makeup job they did but it looks awful!

The acting is atrocious, and it has zero innovation, no one to root for except a little girl and did not follow a set of rules. The continuity takes a huge hit because they say it is ten years later but it was WWII and the movie takes place in 1981…sooo we don’t know what was up.

There is a touching story about a girl and her zombie dad but they are more like vampires than zombies, o and guns don’t affect them but knives seem to.

All in all a bad movie, but i recommend watching it if nothing else than to laugh and say “me and my friends could do better”. Tara gave it a 26/100 and I liked it slightly more with a 30/100

About DJVoorhees13

I don't believe in long winded reviews. I love Jason Voorhees. My favorite Friday is Friday 4: The Final Chapter (even though it isn’t), but I even like Friday 5: A New Beginning. I know the killer is not technically Jason, but you gotta love little Reckless and the blonde woman who keeps throwing him around. My guilty pleasures are Return of the Living Dead Parts 1 – 3. I know they’re not everyone’s favorites, but I can watch them over and over again with no reprieve. I also happen to think that Return of the Living Dead 3 characters Julie and Curt have one of the greatest love story ever told. When I’m not watching horror movies, I’m usually watching old TV shows or reading books/comics. Currently watching Star Trek: Voyager and reading anything by Dante Alighieri.
